SIBLEY RIBBON CUTTING CELEBRATION
On October 28th, Sibley held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to mark the momentous occasion of being the 20th, and final, member of Lewis & Clark to be connected. Water started flowing on October 17th. Speakers at the ribbon cutting ceremony included Senator Chuck Grassley, Bureau of Reclamation Regional Director Brent Esplin, Sibley Mayor Jerry Johnson, Sibley Councilman/L&C Director Larry Pedley and L&C Chairman Murray Hulstein of Sioux Center.
Mayor Jerry Johnson has served on the City Council since 1983, the last 21 years as mayor. “It’s a wonderful day! We’re finally getting Lewis & Clark water! Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the staff and directors at Lewis & Clark, we have finally accomplished our goal. Thank you to our Council for their foresight and City staff for their work on the project. We wouldn’t be here without it,” said Johnson.
Senator Chuck Grassley said, “over 30 years ago, community leaders began dreaming of a way to provide safe, clean water to hundreds of thousands of Iowans and Midwesterners. After decades of perseverance, we’re seeing that dream come to fruition,” Grassley said. “While today marks the final connection to the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System, you can be sure of my continued support through future construction and expansion projects.”
